How It Works
Babelverse is the first application for real-time voice translation, otherwise known as interpretation.
Contrary to others’ attempts to accomplish this using technology (with a combination of speech recognition, machine translation and robotic speech – three points of failure), we rely on people to preserve the quality, context, cultural relevance, tone and emotion of the spoken word. No algorithm can do that!
To ensure high quality, listeners must rate their interpreter after each session. Upon making a request, they will be assigned a personalised ranking of interpreters that are the best fit (automatically taking into account language pair, availability, ratings, expertise, accent…). Users will also be able to re-employ their favourite interpreters.

Babelverse disrupts the traditional conference interpreting industry, by removing its reliance on expensive specialised equipment and on-site interpreters. By remotely connecting interpreters but also attendees from anywhere in the world, it renders irrelevant the barriers of language or geography.
Furthermore, it will allow anybody to benefit from on-the-spot interpretation, remotely via the internet or over the phone, during their everyday conversations, when doing business, traveling, or any situation, for around the cost of a mobile phone call.
Users can request interpretation via their computer, smartphone or other mobile device, and then use their headphones to listen to the interpreter, via their browser (with Flash), Skype, SIP, or even a phone call to a local number.
Note that when multiple users listen in to an interpreter, the cost is divided between them!

Babelverse creates a new source of income for multilingual people all over the world.
The interpreters receive a 70% cut of the per minute interpretation price. To avoid a bid to the bottom, both in terms of pricing and quality, rates are set by Babelverse (per language pair) according to an array of parameters such as the interpreters’ experience, rarity of the languages, cost of life in the countries associated with the languages, etc.
New multilingual members will have the opportunity to interpret casual conversations for other users, to build up their rating over time and then start earning income for more skilled interpretation. Professional interpreters (with specialised training, accreditation and/or a lot of experience) receive a special distinction.
Interpreters can define their general availability (time-slots), within which they are then notified when they are needed via push notifications direct to their smartphone or laptop, and they can choose whether to take the call or ignore it.
Interpreters are independent (i.e. not employees of Babelverse) and work remotely regardless of their location. The whole world is their market!
Our Vision
We aim to gather millions of multilingual members all over the world, making on-demand interpretation in any language easily accessible and affordable to everyone, at any time, and on any device.
Our vision is the seemingly science-fictional idea of everyone being able to simply talk to each other in their respective native languages, and seamlessly understand each other.
